Custom Home 2

Completed in 2008, the Koenig residence is pushing the green envelope with an expected LEED-H gold rating. This home is 4-5 bedrooms and 3 1/2 bathrooms. The primary house design was by Artefact with input from Creswell & Company and supervision from Sustainable Solutions. The final design details from revised second floor plans and various ceilings to doors, trim and built-ins and the front porch, garage doors and deck were all created by Creswell & Company.

Creswell & Company was brought to the project through Sustainable Solutions Corporation. They oversaw preliminary siting of the home and put together the basic green specifications for the home, as well as energy modeling and HVAC design. Sustainable Solutions moderated the early integrated design meetings with the clients, architect and Creswell & Company. Overall they provided a valuable service to the homeowners and have helped to keep the LEED rating process on track throughout construction and beyond.

Many of the green specifications for this home were pioneered in the Creswell residence 2 years earlier including the superior wall foundation, structural insulated panels, and geothermal heating and cooling system. Throughout the Koenig project additional green contributions were made by the continuous efforts of Creswell & Company. In the early phases we utilized biodegradable chainsaw oil for land clearing, made sure all stumps were ground into mulch, milled some site trees into finish lumber for the house, saved several trees that were scheduled to be removed, and incorporated pulverized recycled concrete into the base of the foundation.

Then we sought out, and procured the mobile solar generator (The Sunseeker) to power all of our electrical equipment during construction, we implemented an advanced comprehensive recycling program so that no waste dumpster was ever used on site, we documented the construction process by taking nearly 600 photos, and included these in a custom home owners manual with 50+ pages of original material: including our warranty, emergency information, use and care guide, and maintenance schedules, plus hundreds more pages of technical information from utility line locations to additional warranties, drawings, and specifications.

This house is built to standards well ahead of it’Äôs time. Creswell & Company not only helped to specify those standards, but also assured that they were met or exceeded during the construction. The HERS (Home Energy Rating System) score for this house is around a 25 (0 being net zero energy use and 100 being the standard energy efficient home built today). This home is clearly one of the most energy efficient new homes in our state and entire nation.
